The Goop

An Entire Soil Ecosystem in a Bottle

We’re excited to introduce The Goop, a revolutionary living soil product from The SoilSmiths. The Goop is a premium compost extract, designed to make boosting soil biology effortless for organic growers. Produced with expertise in composting, this ready-to-use concentrated extract is packed with beneficial soil microbes, fungi, and nematodes—delivered with precise data for every batch.

Why Choose The Goop?

Each batch of The Goop is tested via biological soil microscopy, ensuring you get verified counts of fungi and nematodes, two essential components often lacking in living soil. Alongside these, the ultra-thick liquid also contains a variety of beneficial bacteria and protozoa. Every bottle includes a batch number and a report showing microbial counts, so you know exactly what you’re adding to your soil.

Unlike typical compost extracts, The Goop is refined and filtered, then any excess water is extracted to provide a granular, fluffy concentrate, free from large chunks of organic matter and larger organisms found in compost, such as woodlice, but retaining valuable players such as springtails, mites, and sometimes even tiny worms. The Goop goes beyond being a simple soil food web product; it’s the only one of its kind on the market today.

How The Goop Works

Ideal for indoor growers using living soil, The Goop strengthens root systems, enhances nutrient availability, and improves plant resilience. Hundreds of species of beneficial microorganisms work together to suppress disease-causing organisms, making your soil more resilient to harmful pathogens. It’s especially beneficial during the start of the grow cycle in recycled soil, where it acts as a living enzyme product by breaking down recently added soil amendments and old root material with cellulolytic organisms. This accelerates decomposition, recycles nutrients, and promotes a healthier, more active soil ecosystem.

Adding The Goop to your soil is like giving it a natural boost, helping your plants thrive the way nature intended.

Benefits of The Goop

  • Increased nutrient availability: Higher mineralisation rates improve nutrient uptake, supporting robust plant growth.
  • Better yields: Expect healthier, more abundant fruits, flowers, and foliage.
  • Disease suppression: Hundreds of beneficial microorganisms in The Goop outcompete disease-causing pathogens, creating a healthier soil environment.
  • Improved drought tolerance: The Goop aids in moisture retention by forming soil aggregates, allowing water to be absorbed more efficiently and used over time.

Growers using The Goop get great value for money. Their soil is teeming with life, and the plants are thriving. Whether you're familiar with compost extracts or looking to try something new, The Goop will take your grow to the next level.

Why The Goop Stands Out

  • Easy Application: Making compost extracts can be time-consuming, but The Goop makes it easy. Just make a paste first in a small volume of water, stirring well, then dilute further with dechlorinated water, and apply. No need for brewing or filtering.
  • High Microbial Density: The Goop contains 2–4 times the microbial density of typical bio-complete compost by weight, with minimum fungal counts of 500 micrograms per ml and 500 nematodes per ml—though counts are more often higher.
  • Superior Moisture Regulation: It helps regulate moisture in living soils by promoting the formation of soil aggregates, improving water infiltration and storage, especially in smaller pots or coarser soil mixes.
  • Support for Soil Science: By using The Goop, you’re contributing to research that aims to replace agrochemicals with natural biology, supporting more sustainable, organic farming practices.

How to Use The Goop

Indoor Living Soil Pots & Beds:

  • Use 1-4 teaspoons (5-20 ml) of The Goop per litre of water.
  • Apply 500ml-1L per pot, or 4-6L per m2.

For best results, use once before planting, then every 2-3 weeks. Even if you apply The Goop only once or twice per growing cycle - once before planting and again in early to mid-flower - you’ll see benefits.

Keep The Goop refrigerated. It can be stored for up to 12 weeks and used when needed.

After application, ensure your soil is maintained at a good moisture level to support microbial activity, avoiding dry backs and over-watering.

Compost Piles & Worm Bins: Use 200 ml of The Goop per 1,000–2,000 litres of compost materials to accelerate decomposition and boost microbial activity.

Outdoor Soil: Use one teaspoon (5 ml) per litre of dechlorinated water and apply 0.5–1 litre of the solution per square metre. Best applied to moist soil during the active growing season. Maintain a good moisture level after application.

Health & Safety

As The Goop is a living biological product, it's important to handle it with care. Always wash your hands after use and avoid contact with eyes or ingestion. If it comes into contact with your skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. Re-seal when not in use. Keep away from children, pets and foodstuffs.

Please Note: As each batch is handcrafted for optimal quality, orders will be shipped directly from The SoilSmiths' lab, separate from other Ecothrive products.
