For optimal results, use 180–250L of soil per 1.2 x 1.2m grow area. Here are some examples:
EXAMPLE 1:
- 4 plants in a 1.2 x 1.2m area, with pot sizes between 45–60L. Total soil: 180–240L.
EXAMPLE 2:
- 2 plants in a 1.2 x 1.2m area, using 90–120L pots. Total soil: 180–240L.
EXAMPLE 3:
- 9 plants in a 1.2 x 1.2m area, using 20–25L pots. Total soil: 180–225L.
EXAMPLE 4:
- 2–6 plants in a 1.2 x 1.2m area. Ideal bed size: 3ft x 3ft. Total soil volume: 240L.
While it’s possible to grow plants to full maturity in smaller 25L pots using Ecothrive Living Soil, keep in mind that they will need more regular top-dressing and careful attention to soil moisture to maintain an active living ecosystem. Smaller pots can make it trickier to keep conditions optimal, but with due care, excellent results are still achievable.
We totally appreciate that smaller pots offer growers several advantages: they’re easier to move, more budget-friendly to begin with and an ideal way to get started in the world of living soil growing. However, for plants with a footprint of 50 x 50cm to 60 x 60cm, we recommend sticking to pots no smaller than 25L to ensure healthy growth and a manageable soil environment.
