Where It All Began
Our founder Gareth had just spent months with innovative organic growers in North America. He came back convinced the UK growing scene was ready for something different. A former worm farmer and greenhouse grower, he'd seen the future of sustainable cultivation. His first creation, Charge, revolutionised British growing.
The rest grew from there.
Why We Exist
Simplicity. We want every grower to have access to methods that actually work with nature. Living soil, coco, whatever your setup—we've developed the tools to help you achieve brilliant results while taking care of our environment.
The Living Soil Revolution
Living soil works differently. We want to help growers to move away from reliance on bottled nutrients, and instead focus on the creation of a true living soil ecosystem. This allows the microbes in the soil to do what they were designed for—the heavy lifting of feeding your plants, breaking down organic matter so that your plants can grow and bloom naturally.
It took us years to get our blend just right. With Ecothrive Living Soil, we selected premium coco as our base, then we added biochar for air pockets and homes for microbes, then we balanced the whole range of specialist inputs from insect frass to rock minerals. Each ingredient has been carefully selected to release nutrients at different speeds—and that's the core principle. You enjoy growing in soil that keeps on giving, harvest after harvest. Same bag, multiple grows.

Our products are designed to work alone or as a team. Some growers keep things super simple by growing in Ecothrive Living Soil and top dressing occasionally with Soil Food. Others like to fine-tune: Charge for a quick biology hit, Biosys for microbe diversity, Neutralise to dechlorinate tap water, Flourish for stress relief (particularly handy if growing under intense light), and Trace to deliver a whole suite of micronutrients that your plants silently crave. Grassroots Innovation
All of our premium organic products have been crafted by our team in our Sheffield workshop. You will always find Gareth's in the thick of it because, as our founder, he lives and breathes plants, soil and everything related to organic cultivation. We are constantly testing our products in real world conditions and evolving our production processes.
At Ecothrive, we never stand still. All of our formulas are based on the latest research and grower feedback and we’re always looking to improve. In 2024, we transformed Charge into a compressed crumb form—50% more concentrated with way less dust. We also upgraded Life-Cycle with micronised rock phosphate and finer-grade ingredients for faster nutrient release.
More recently, Biosys received a complete overhaul. We added endophytes that actually move inside your plants, plus microbe teams specifically chosen to work together.
Every batch of every product is made with the utmost care. All of our formulas are backed by countless real world growing trials.

Treading Lighter
We are always moving in a positive direction and improving wherever we can. To this end, we recently switched our plastic tubs to recyclable paper bags for our dry products like Charge, Life-Cycle and the Soil Food range.
We source ingredients locally when possible to cut down on transport miles and support British suppliers. Ok, we still use plastic bottles for liquids (working on that), but every small step counts!
